This year I want to Geocache
Throughout 2016 I had terrible pain in my knee. What a relief when at the beginning of 2017 I was able to do more without so much pain. I told Terry “this year I want to geocache and exercise”. He had no idea what we were in for. We picked up a couple of geocaches as winter was ending. By spring with temperatures finally staying above freezing I was obsession oriented.
My first geocache obsession
I wanted to have some geocache hides published. The research began:container types, log types, swag, hide locations. So I came up with a really cool idea and submitted it for review. Shot down! It would have been classified as a virtual which had been grandfathered and were not allowed anymore. Well shoot! Not to be discouraged I decided to do a traditional. The kids helped me pick out a spot. Then it was submitted for the review process and with a few adjustments and emails between the reviewer and I it was published. Yippee!
Well, since I was on the geocaching site & app more often thing started popping up in my emails and app for souvenirs. Hmmm.. souvenirs?
Well, lets just say souvenirs drive Terry crazy and my obsession becomes determined! The first one was to find a Multi (check and done) but I noticed there were not a lot of Multi caches in our area. So, you guessed it, I am going to work on getting one published.
My Multi “The Great Escape” GC73JYF is a pretty interesting historical fact for our area. But coming up with a way to make it a Multi? It took some thought on how to use the info to get the coordinates. Creating the Multi with a “field puzzle” attribute seems to be a little more difficult for those who want simple park and grabs. So it does not have a lot of finds but it is an ammo can full of SWAG for those who do take the time. Doing research for creating this cache I discovered there is not a lot of info out there on hiding caches. The geocaching website is full of information, but if you want the nitty gritty good luck finding it. I did find 2 books that were useful: Geocaching containers and Puzzles. The Puzzle book I would recommend for everyone to own! The next several blogs I write will start going into details about tips, homemade SWAG, my finds and hides, so I hope you enjoy the future of my blog as much as I enjoy Geocaching!
