Are you obsessed with geocaching? Well, give it a little time and your obsession with geocaching will set in.
I discovered geocaching thru a friends post on facebook a few(visit my geocaching facebook page) years prior to my obsession with geocaching beginning. Reading her post, I thought “this is a pretty neat idea”. Then filed it back in my memory as another one of the things I wanted to do or try. “Wow, a treasure hunt in the woods using GPS!” Then in the summer of 2014 we had family coming in for vacation. My brother’s family (well the twins didn’t count because they were only 2) and my stepdaughter were all going to need to be entertained. When everyone sat down to dinner we were feeding 12 that week. So I remembered about the geocaching post and thought “this might keep them entertained.”
Geocaching App is a free app on our IPhones that we all uploaded and the fun began. We would have the kids solve the hints thru the cipher. Study the geo map to figure out where we were going to go treasure hunt. I can honestly say our first find took a little bit of time to figure out. After that the kids were jumping out of the vehicles before we even had a chance to put them in park (like rats deserting a sinking ship).
The geocaching success
But after a few finds, the kids and dads were on task and the hunts were getting more fun! They were under lamp post skirts, up in trees, under logs, & hidden in bushes. Everyone was learning how to use the app and the navigation button. We were all learning to convert how many yards the hide was away from us and how that equated into steps. There were even a few tantrums and pouting faces over who would find it first. The kids, brother, and I were really enjoying geocaching. My husband not so much, he didn’t like not being able to find them (the dnf’s).
So that vacation week we spent a lot of spare time visiting parks, shopping, getting ice cream and finding a geocache everywhere we went. Even when we went on vacation the following summer we went geocaching. It took us to some of the neatest places and the kids learned several historical facts thru Virtual caches, Puzzle caches and Earth caches. But, who knew after spending over a year healing up an injured knee that I would develop my obsession with geocaching. The spring of 2017 I decided when it warmed up that I was going to spend the summer soaking up some sun and exercising my knee. I loved it and wanted to geocache alot more and MY OBSESSION WITH GEOCACHING began!
