The month long Mary Hyde Geocaching Event quest was moving right along so I hosted my first Event Gold Treasure
Groundspeak motivated all geocachers with a month long Mary Hyde Geocaching event in the summer of 2017 to find caches, friends and events.
With each weekly quest completed you gained a new souvenir and if you completed all four weeks you were rewarded with a trackable. I LOVED it. I was finding all sorts of new cachers in my area. There are a couple of new cachers that I have tons of fun with when we go on outings. Each week you had to individually or team wise total a certain amount of points. I thought it was an awesome effort from groundspeak to get us out and meet new people. So what did I do? I hosted my first event.
The first geocaching event I hosted
So if you have read some of earlier blogs I was obsessed with geocaching by the beginning on 2017. However, I had up until this point not attended a geocaching event. Most are held on the other side of the river on weeknights when the 5 oclock traffic is awful. Family, dinner and work all hamper my weeknight attempts at doing such events. Now Saturdays are a whole other story. The emails that we were getting during that time frame also gave us some ideas on hosting an event. Plus I read everything I could in the forums, facebook groups, and on the geocaching website and dove straight into hosting an event!
I planned an early morning 9:30 meet ‘n greet event and made muffins(I love to cook-so the menu was fresh blueberry muffins and cinnamon roll muffins). Everyone loves food and most conversations about hosting said to do something casual. If you read the logs I truly believe everyone enjoyed the muffins. I am extremely organized and had a flyer for those who attended to fill out about what they wanted in future events that I might host. I also had the following:
Theme-Pirate of course since we were doing the Mary Hyde events
Log-a treasure map they could sign
Name tags-I wanted to know their geo name as well as real name to get to know them better
Goody bag-a few swag items and candy(I tried to find pirate themed items).
Costume-Pirate eye patch, bandanas, and pirate blouse & belt
It was a blast. I got to meet several cache owners from my area. I cant even begin to explain how much fun attending events can be and I am truly looking forward to my next one.
