Our train building began and then well began again.
Terry grew up building HO trains in the basement with his dad. I can only imagine what the setup looked like! Gilbert (Terry’s dad) was an amazing wood craftsman! I started with N Scale Trains as a hobby back in the mid 90’s. It was small layout probably 3×3 with a single track. I didn’t do very much with it and eventually it went into box storage. Fast forward to Married with Hobbies when I met Terry.
Wow, something else we have in common, we both LOVE trains.
For Fathers Day in 2010 the whole family went on a train excursion that included an old west train robbery in New Haven KY. So, even the kids enjoy trains. Kassidy maybe not so much at that time since she was only 4. The train pulled into the station and blew the steam whistle and I think she physically climbed over the top of Terry trying to get out of the way. We both still laugh about that incident.
Train Layouts that did not work.
We decided to start with a small layout with a mountain. Our train building began and scratch 1 and redo because Terry wanted more track. Our train building began again, second build with more track.. well lets just say scratch 2 & 3 with lots of discussion about track vs scenery. I love scenery and think the train should be part of it. Terry wants track that runs thru scenery. Did I mention we were Married with Hobbies? We both love the track layout and both have our sides of the layout that we are passionate about. This particular set of stories will deal with our current build and the ideas and finds that might be helpful to you.
